Residential Services

Garbage Collection Overview

Residential Service is provided to all single family residences, townhouses or commercialized residences (consisting of two or less units). Except those who have received variance from this section, are required to subscribe to the City’s residential collection service.

The DSWM provides residential, commercial, recycling collection, processing and disposal services for approximately 26,000 residents and 1,200 commercial customers. All residents/commercial customers are eligible to receive garbage and recycling services from the City of Edinburg after establishing a water account with the City's Utility Department. Once your account is established residents/commercial customers must come by our office located at 8601 N. Jasman Road to establish their service. When establishing your services you may also request information or join on our voluntary curbside recycling program, which is currently only available to our residential customers; commercial customers are able to utilize our recycling drop off center. For more specific information see our Recycling Services tab.

Garbage is collected once a week and recyclables are collected bi-weekly. Collections start at 7 a.m. and are conducted Monday through Friday for residential garbage and Wednesday's for recyclables. Bins must be placed out for collection after 7 p.m. the night before your scheduled collection day. All bins must be taken off the curb by 7 p.m. on your collection day. Containers should only be on the curb on collections pickup days. There is no set time for pickups of bins on scheduled days.

The cleanliness and sanitation of the container will be the responsibility of the resident and can be done so by using a mild detergent and water hose as needed. Additionally, we provide residential Brush & Bulky Items services at no additional cost for residents with a
n established water account.

Exclusive Provider
The City of Edinburg is the exclusive provider of solid waste and recycling services for residences, businesses and industry in the City of Edinburg city limits. Private haulers may NOT collect from any location within the City; if the City is unable to provide a specialized service to a particular establishment or business (such as hazardous waste collection) then the resident or business owner must receive written authorization from the City in order to contract with a Private hauler. That hauler must then provide the service as prescribed by the Department of Solid Waste Management.
