Regional TAAF Track and Field Championships Coming Back to Edinburg
Edinburg, Texas (July 5, 2017) — For the second year in a row, Edinburg will host the Regional Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Region 2 Track and Field Championships on July 7 and July 8. The competition will take place at the Richard R. Flores Stadium.
Edinburg and the entire Rio Grande Valley are part of Region 2, one of 17 regions in the state used for regional competition and for qualifying entries into state tournaments.
About 2,000 athletes ages five through 18 will travel to Edinburg to compete in shot put/discus, pole vault, high jump, long jump, triple jump, as well as running events this weekend. The events are divided into age groups with the top six (6) athletes and the top six (6) relay teams in each division moving on to compete at the State TAAF Championships happening in McAllen July 27-30.
Edinburg Regional field events on both days will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until all events are concluded. The end time is expected to be around 8:30 p.m. daily.
Palm Drive situated between the Richard R. Flores Stadium and the Edinburg Sports and Wellness Center will be closed on both days. The public is encouraged to enter the parking areas via Closner Boulevard, Stadium Drive, or Dawson Drive.
Spectator admission fee is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Two-day passes are available and are the most economical at $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.
