Edinburg PD Determined to Keep Drunk Drivers off Edinburg Roadways

Edinburg, Texas (July 29, 2017)  — Edinburg police officers will work overtime this Fourth of July Holiday to keep drunk drivers off roadways.  The detailed enforcement is part of a grant made available to law enforcement agencies by the Texas Department of Transportation targeting safety on roadways.

The special enforcement in Edinburg runs from June 29 through July 4.

Drivers suspected of driving under the influence will be pulled over and arrested.

Edinburg Police Chief David White encourages everyone making plans to celebrate this Independence Day to include a sober driver in their party plans.  “Before going out, people should designate who the sober driver will be or if they’re going to call a cab or a friend. Our goal is to make our roadways safer so if you drink and drive you will go to jail.”

This DWI enforcement involves using officers not already on duty to work specified hours with the sole purpose of keeping drunk drivers off Edinburg roadways.

In July 2016, Edinburg police officers made 24 DWI arrests.
