Memorial Held for Edinburg Police Department Canine Officer
Edinburg, Texas (April 27, 2017) – The Edinburg community and Rio Grande Valley law enforcement gathered Thursday morning at Memorial Funeral Home to bid farewell to Edinburg Police Department Canine Officer Eros.
The nine-year-old Belgian Malinois, who passed away on April 16, had been with the department since 2010. Eros was a dual purpose canine, trained in narcotics and patrol with special focus in detaining, tracking, and building searches.
Mayor Richard H. Garcia and Councilmembers Richard Molina and David Torres thanked Eros for his public service and expressed their condolences to his handler, Officer Edward Badillo.
Badillo thanked those in attendance and all those who have shown their support.
“Eros loved to come to work. Once he got in the patrol unit he knew it was time to work and he always gave me 100 percent,” Badillo said. “He was a fearless officer, a willing protector and a loyal friend.”
Police Chief David White echoed Badillo’s sentiment and said Eros will be truly missed by the department
