Edinburg and EEDC Break Ground For Construction of DPS Mega Center
Edinburg, Texas (March 17, 2017) – The City of Edinburg, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, and the Texas Department of Public Safety held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the DPS Mega Driver License Center in north Edinburg Friday morning. Also participating in the ceremony were Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and Representative Terry Canales.
The DPS Mega Center will be a 25,000 square foot facility located at the corner of Davis Road and I69C. The Edinburg location is one of only 25 across the state.
Mayor Richard H. Garcia said, “We’re very happy with this new facility. The services are much needed, and it joins a growing area for us. This is a perfect location for DPS who joins our other public safety entities like the Sheriff’s Department, a new fire station, and our airport DPS aviation”
The facility will provide a number of benefits to Edinburg and surrounding communities including Class C Driver and all Commercial Driver License skills tests in the Rio Grande Valley.
DPS Commander Jose C. Rodriguez said DPS is dedicated to offering quality customer service to all Texans who visit driver license offices across the state and the Edinburg location is part of that endeavor.
Rodriguez also thanked city officials for their commitment to the project.
“Thank you for the vision of growth that you have for both Edinburg and the Rio Grande Valley,” he said. “It is awesome to partner with you. If you do a Google search for ‘partnership,’ you are bound to see the logo for the City of Edinburg on there.”
The DPS Mega Center is expected to be completed by August of this year and become operational.
The physical address for the DPS Mega Center is 5160 N. I69C and is accessible by taking the Davis Road/Ramseyer Road exit.
