Edinburg Holds Kickoff 2020 Census Complete Count Committee Meeting
EDINBURG, TEXAS (Oct. 10, 2018) – City of Edinburg leaders and community stakeholders kicked off 2020 Census preparation with the first meeting of the Edinburg Complete Count Committee.
At the meeting the committee received training from the United States Census Bureau in preparation of the 2020 Census.
“We are very happy to be here,” Edinburg Community Development Director Marissa Garza said. “We have put together a great group of people – stakeholders from our community to be part of this committee.”
The purpose of the committee is to strategize and promote the upcoming census count.
“The population of the City is close to hitting the 100,000 mark and that makes a big difference in terms of dollars and federal funding,” Garza said.
The City of Edinburg and all of Hidalgo County were undercounted in the previous census back in 2010.
As a result, the City has been working with the U.S. Census Bureau since last year.
“We started planning and talking to the Census Bureau staff since 2017 so that we can look at our deficiencies and see where we need to improve for 2020,” Garza said.
