Edinburg to Kickoff 2018 Holiday Season This Week

EDINBURG, TEXAS (Dec. 3, 2018) – The City of Edinburg will begin the 2018 Holiday Season Thursday, Dec. 6, with the annual Lighting of the Tree in the courtyard at Edinburg City Hall at 6 p.m.

The Lighting of the Tree ceremony will include holiday messages from Mayor Richard Molina and the Edinburg City Council, as well as, performances by Villarreal Elementary, Edinburg North High School Mariachi, Arte Dance Studio and Vanguard Academy Beethoven. In addition to lighting of the tree, there will be a festival from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at W. McIntyre Street between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue. The Night of Lights Festival will feature vendors, children’s activities and music by Arzalez.

Friday, Dec. 7, the City will host its 18th Annual Night of Lights Parade. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. at the corner of University Drive and Sugar Road. It will head east on the north lane of University Drive and will end at Edinburg City Hall.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to watch and enjoy the parade.

Please note that University Drive will close to through traffic at 4:30 p.m. in preparation for the parade.

There is no charge to any of the scheduled events.

The Lighting of the Tree and the Night of Lights Parade will be broadcast on the City’s cable network Spectrum channel 1300, the City’s website and Facebook Live.
