City Council Recognizes UTRGV Economics Team
EDINBURG, TEXAS (April 18, 2018) – The Edinburg City Council recognized the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Economics students for its first place finish at the 15th Annual CME Group Trading Challenge.
The CME Group Trading Challenge is a four week electronic trading competition open exclusively to teams of currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students, offering them a chance to learn hands-on techniques for trading futures across all major asset classes on CQG’s real-time professional trading platform.
The teams were provided with simulation money to trade through two rounds of competition. UTRGV achieved a 182.63 percent return in the two-week period to earn a first place finish ahead of Kansas State University, University of Malaya, Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, and Johns Hopkins University.
The first place finish is the first in the UTRGV history.
Representing UTRGV were Christopher Martinez, Michael Villarreal, and Jose Naveja – all members of the Robert Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship Student Organization “The Trading Association” founded and led by Dr. Bruno Arthur, Professor of Economics and Finance.
