City Council Proclaims October 26 as National Lights On Afterschool Day in Edinburg
National Lights On Afterschool Day is celebrated to promote the importance of quality afterschool programs in the lives of children, families, and the community.
In the United States, more than 28 million children have parents who work outside the home. Approximately 15.1 million children have no place to go after schoolschool due to the lack of funding of many afterschool programs forcing them to close their doors.
Quality afterschool programs provide a fun, safe, challenging and engaging experiences to children and youth that help them develop socially, emotionally, physically, culturally, and academically.
In our community, the Boys & Girls Club of Edinburg RGV has provided significant leadership in our community providing quality afterschool programs.
