Edinburg, Texas—The City of Edinburg now has an additional temporary judge that can fill in should Municipal Judge Toribio “Terry” Palacios be unavailable.  Local attorney, Hector Bustos, was sworn-in by Judge Palacios, Tuesday, February 14 during a special ceremony at Edinburg City Hall.

Bustos was appointed by a unanimous City Council vote on February 9 during a regularly scheduled meeting.

The temporary positions were created in 2015 when the Council amended the City Code of Ordinances.  The amendment allows for the appointment of one or more temporary judges. The first temporary judge, Rogelio Solis, was appointed and sworn-in on September 9, 2015.

The Municipal Judge is elected at large by the people and serves four-year terms.  Judge Palacios was reelected on May 9, 2015, during the Municipal General Election.

Bustos will step in when Judge Palacios is unavailable. His law firm deals with criminal, civil, and personal injury matters. He is a graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and has been licensed since 2009.

He was born and raised in Edinburg having graduated from Edinburg High School. Today, he continues to live in Edinburg and operates his own law firm on N. 13th Ave.
