March 2, 2017, Edinburg, Texas– The construction boom continues in Edinburg. That was Mayor Richard H. Garcia message today as he took part in the 13th Annual State of Real Estate Forum focused on the current economic status of the region.
The Forum, sponsored by Edwards Abstract and Title Company was held at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance. The annual event is aimed at observing the local, state and national economies, housing markets and how they influence one another.
Chief Economist and Keynote Speaker Dr. Ted C. Jones expounded on the themes for this year’s forum, some of which included infrastructure, job growth, and housing market improvements. Mayor Garcia addressed these themes on a local level.
“Total construction has had a steady growth in the past 5 years… and we have been seeing this increase because of new development.”
Mayor Garcia mentioned such developments as the new H-E-B Park that will serve as home to the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros Soccer Team, the Bert Ogden Arena and the new medical school at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
“We know what a medical school did for San Antonio, it has been transformed by medical investment… and that’s what we are moving toward.”
Garcia also added that Edinburg is becoming a magnet for growth, specifically north of SH 107 where a new 90,000 – square –foot entertainment facility, will be located. “This is yet another attraction that puts the City of Edinburg on the map as a destination city.”
Mayor Garcia concluded his remarks by addressing McAllen Mayor Jim Darling who also attended the forum, stating that they will work together to assure the future success of the region.
