Edinburg Texas—Edinburg Mayor Richard H. Garcia today delivered the State of the City Address at the all-new IMAX Theater.  Mayor Garcia reported the City is “Flying High” with new construction, new jobs, and finances.

He outlined several multi-million dollar projects that are serving as magnets for new developments.  Developments like the $29 million newly announced Cinergy, a 90,000 square foot entertainment complex to be built just off of I-69 Central between Monte Cristo and Davis Roads; the all new H-E-B Park, home of the RGV FC Toros; and the new IMAX Theater, a $5 million project and the only one south of San Antonio.

Mayor Garcia also announced the coming of a Payne dealership to be built on the east side of I-69C between Trenton and Canton Roads; Jason’s Deli, Golden Chick Restaurant, and a veterinary clinic, as well as a special needs park where children with all types of challenges will be able to have fun and where they can learn about feelings of belongings and acceptance. The park is part of the Casa Cultural Project to be located along the McIntyre Promenade that will also include a food court, playscape, splash pad, indoor and outdoor stages as well as other amenities to facilitate art events.

Additions and rehabs to both homes and businesses are also flying high as the City recorded $14 million in remodeling and repair permits in March of this year.  In the first three months of 2017, Edinburg recorded $134 million in construction projects.  That is $4 million more than all of 2015, and he has no doubt the numbers will also surpass the 2016 construction total.  “In 2016, the P & Z Department issued $209 million in construction permits.  If the first quarter is any indication, I believe we’re on track to surpass that by the end of the year.”

Companies making improvements include Hacienda Ford with a $2.5 million addition, Bert Ogden with a new Fiesta Nissan Dealership and a $5.6 million addition along with 50 new jobs, and FedEx with a $4 million, 50,500 square foot expansion.

He wrapped it up by saying, “Numbers don’t lie, on the contrary, they demonstrate that Edinburg is Flying High.”
