Edinburg Texas — The City of Edinburg on Tuesday welcomed law enforcement representatives from across Hidalgo County for the official grand opening of its first all-inclusive training facility for police officers. The 9,600 square foot facility is located on North Doolittle Road inside the Edinburg Fire Department’s E.E. Sanders Training Field.

Councilmember Richard Molina, City Administrators, Ron Garza, Executive Director of the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, and Edinburg Chamber of Commerce Members were on hand to help mark the special occasion.

The building features a grand conference room for large events or training; classrooms; office space; large meeting room; small conference room; staff break room; and an electrical and storage room.

It will be used for the continued training of officers and eventually include new cadet training as well.

It will also house the PD’s Training Division which is responsible for recruiting and training new applicants. Cadet Class 195 already in session is the first class to use the facility.

Total cost for the building was $1.2 million of which more than half came from drug forfeiture funds.
