Edinburg to Kick-Off Holiday Season with Annual Tree Lighting and Night of Lights ParadeRSS Feed

Edinburg, Texas (Nov. 30, 2017) ­­— The City of Edinburg announces the official kick-off to the 2017 Holiday Season with the annual Lighting of the Christmas tree today at 6 p.m. in the courtyard at Edinburg City Hall.  The event includes holiday messages from Mayor Richard Molina and City Councilmembers, as well as, holiday musical performances from Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Elementary Schools.

The lighting of the tree is a prelude to the 17th Annual Night of Lights Parade happening Friday, Dec 1. The parade starts at 7 p.m. at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley campus at the corner of Sugar Road and University Drive. It will head east on the north lane of University Drive and will end at the Hidalgo County Courthouse square. 

Residents are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to watch and enjoy the parade. In addition, beginning at 6:30 p.m., they can also enjoy performances in front of City Hall by the Edinburg Parks & Recreation Folkloric Dancers.

Please note that University Drive will close to through traffic at 6 p.m. in preparation of the parade.

There is no charge for any of the scheduled events.

The lighting of the tree and the parade will be broadcast live via the City’s Cable Network ECN95-12 and streamed on the City’s website
