City Council Recognizes Edinburg Assistant Police Chief Peter De La Garza for 39 Years of ServiceRSS Feed

EDINBURG, TEXAS (May 29, 2018) – The Edinburg City Council issued a proclamation to recognize Assistant Chief of Police Peter De La Garza for more than 30 years of service to the City of Edinburg.

De La Garza is currently the longest serving member of the Edinburg Police Department with 39 years of service. He began his career in December 1978 as a Patrolman I when he was only 21 years old.

Through the years, De La Garza has risen through the ranks of the Edinburg Police Department and has seen the City and the department quadruple in size.

De La Garza said, “I’ve met a lot of good people who start with us here at Edinburg PD and they’ve gone elsewhere, and now I see their children working here with us.”

For De La Garza the comradery of the department and credits this to his 39 years of service.

“I enjoy working here,” he said. “I’ve been here for so long – I Just enjoy coming to work.”

Early in his career De La Garza had the opportunity to leave Edinburg for a job opportunity up north.

However, De La Garza chose a family life in Edinburg.

“Looking at my family I decided that the best thing for me was to stay here in Edinburg, and to this day I have no regrets.”

De La Garza said that he plans to stay a few more years with the Edinburg Police Department.
