EDINBURG, TEXAS (June 15, 2018) – The Edinburg City Council appointed Edinburg resident Pilar Rodriguez as new City Manager during a special meeting Friday afternoon.

Rodriguez comes to Edinburg with a wealth of knowledge in city government after serving as assistant city manager, director of public works, deputy city engineer and director of traffic for the City of McAllen.

Currently, Rodriguez is executive director of the Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority.

“Mr. Rodriguez was a finalist for the City Manager position in Edinburg three years ago,” Mayor Richard Molina said. “It was long overdue that he brings his expertise to Edinburg. The public will not be disappointed with his appointment.”

Rodriguez is a licensed civil engineer. He also serves as volunteer firefighter, structural specialist for Texas Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team and as team leader for the Texas Public Works Strike Team. He is a member of the Texas Public Works Association and the State Firefighters & Fire Marshals Association.

Councilmember Gilbert Enriquez said, “This Council wants to get back to the basics. Mr. Rodriguez will bring the knowledge, stability and guidance Edinburg needs.”

Rodriguez earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Texas A&I University, now Texas A&M University – Kingsville.

He will begin his new role as City Manager on Monday, July 2.
