Some frequently asked questions:

  • Q: I HAVE LARGE APPLIANCES, FURNITURE OR CONSTRUCTION DEMOLITION DEBRIS TO DISPOSE OF, WHAT CAN I DO?
  • Call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635 to request a roll-off container or a special collection service at an additional fee.
  • Q: WHERE SHOULD I PUT THE AUTOMATED CONTAINER ON MY COLLECTION DAY?
  • At the edge of the curb (not into the street) by 7 AM on the scheduled day(s) for your collection service. Place the container at least 4 feet away from mailboxes, additional containers, and other obstructions. Don't put the cart behind parked cars or under low tree limbs and wires. Don't stack additional items in front of, on top or beside the container, as they will interfere with collection.
  • Q: I HAVE TOO MUCH WASTE TO FIT IN MY CONTAINER EACH WEEK, WHAT CAN I DO?
  • Please call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635 in order to increase your service days or get a larger container.
  • Q: THIS WEEK I HAVE SOME EXCESS GARBAGE THAT WOULDN'T FIT IN MY CONTAINER. WHAT CAN I DO?
  • Please request extra service by calling Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635. We'll be glad to return for a nominal fee. If you continue to have excess garbage on a regular basis please call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635 to order an additional container or increase service days.
  • Q: MY CONTAINER WAS NOT PICKED UP, WHAT CAN I DO?
  • First, check to see if the waste collector left a yellow service problem tag on the container or front door. The tag will notify you of any problems we had trying to service the container. Make any requested changes (moving the can, clearing items in front of it, etc.) that are on the tag and call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635. We'll be glad to return and service your container.
  • Q: WHENEVER MY CONTAINER IS PICKED UP, THE DRIVER SPILLS GARBAGE AND LITTER, WHAT CAN I DO?
  • Several things can cause spillage and litter when your can is being serviced. First, make sure that the container is not overflowing and that the lids are completely closed. Also please bag all garbage placed in the can. This cuts down on litter flying out of the can on windy days and keeps the container clean and odor free.
  • Q: MY CONTAINER IS DAMAGED/MISSING A WHEEL OR LID, WHAT CAN I DO?
  • Call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635 . We'll replace or repair your container at no charge. Please be sure to leave the can in a location that is accessible to our personnel.
  • Q: MY BUSINESS IS GOING TO REQUIRE A DUMPSTER ENCLOSURE. WHAT SIZE DOES IT NEED TO BE? ARE THERE OTHER REQUIREMENTS?
  • Dumpster enclosures depend on the size and quantity of containers that will be utilized. If the opening is facing a public right-of way, gates will be required. When the gates are open the collection vehicle requires a 12-foot wide entry. The dumpster pad will need to be constructed of 6-inch thick steel reinforced concrete. The approach to the enclosure from public streets must meet the same development standards required for fire lanes. For more information, please call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635.
  • Q: I'M BUILDING AN APARTMENT COMPLEX. HOW MANY DUMPSTER ENCLOSURES WILL I BE REQUIRED TO HAVE?
  • Please Call Solid Waste Management at 956-381-5635.
  • Q: CAN I STORE OTHER ITEMS LIKE GREASE COLLECTION CONTAINERS IN MY DUMPSTER ENCLOSURE?
  • No, we will be unable to provide collection service if there are other items in the enclosure that may damage or be damaged by the collection vehicle and dumpster.
