The Edinburg Police Department is currently led by Edinburg native, Chief Jaime Ayala. The Edinburg Police Department currently staffs 190 sworn officers, which includes two Assistant Police Chiefs, eight Lieutenants, twenty-one Sergeants and 71 non-sworn employees with a jurisdiction of approximately 44.72 square miles and serving over 104,000 residents. The police department provides services to the City of Edinburg 24/7. The department utilizes several specialized divisions to detect crime and enforce city and state laws in order to make the City of Edinburg a safer and better place to live, work, and visit. Some of the assignments in the department include: Intoxilyzer Operators, Drug Recognition Experts, SWAT, Auto Theft Task Force, Drone Operators, Honor Guard, and more specific divisions like Criminal Investigations, Training Division, Traffic Investigation, Community Oriented Policing Division, Motorcycle Officers, K-9 Officers, Field Training Officers, Mental Health Officers and Patrol Officers.
