EDINBURG, TX – As the need for COVID-19 testing increases across the county, Hidalgo County has partnered with FEMA, the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM), and the City of Edinburg to open a drive-thru testing site at the Edinburg Municipal Park located at 714 S. Raul Longoria Road in Edinburg. Health officials expect to administer about 1,000 COVID-19 tests per day.

The drive-thru site will begin full operations on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 and will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will remain open until Friday, February 4, 2022. A soft opening will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“I commend state and federal officials for assisting our Hidalgo County residents by providing thousands of free COVID-19 tests,” said County Judge Richard F. Cortez. “It is vital that residents get tested as soon as symptoms arise so they may quarantine and prevent infecting others. That is one of the best ways we will be able to stop the spread.”

To get tested, residents MUST have an appointment. Residents can register online by either scanning the QR code or visiting http://www.doineedacovid19test.com/Edinburg_TX_14606.html. Those without internet access can register by calling (800) 635-8611. Everyone, including children, must be registered. Once residents have registered, they must print out the voucher and bring it with them at their scheduled appointment time.

“Our commitment to the health and well-being of our residents continues,” said City of Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza. “We welcome the opportunity to partner with state, federal and county officials to bring these much needed tests to our community.”

The tests will be PCR nasal swabs that residents will administer themselves with the help of medical experts. Results will be available within 48 to 72 hours and will be sent via email to residents. The COVID-19 tests are free and there is no age limit on who can be tested. A child must be accompanied by a parent.

The entrance to the testing site will be at the intersection of South Raul Longoria Road and East Sprague Street in Edinburg. Officials advise residents to arrive at their appointment time to avoid traffic issues.

Officials will be available for interviews during the soft opening on Tuesday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m. Media is asked to enter from the back of the park off of North Doolittle Road and Highway 107.
