City of Edinburg Observes MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY with Cemetery Clean Up

EDINBURG, TX –The City of Edinburg’s Juneteenth Committee in conjunction with UTRGV Center for Student Involvement will host a MLK Day “Clean Up” at the Restlawn Cemetery at 1122 North Jasman Road in Edinburg, Texas. The clean-up will be on January 17, 2022 from 9:45 - 12:00 p.m. The Restlawn Cemetery is a historical African American cemetery that was segregated during the 1920’s. The cemetery was originally called “The Cabbage Patch”. The community and the Rio Grande Valley is encouraged to come out and donate their time to a great service project honoring Martin Luther King Jr. If you have any questions or concerns call Bishop Michael Smith at 956 -432-1209 or Magdiel Castle, Dustin Sekula Memorial Library - Edinburg at 956- 383-6246.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own shovels, rakes, and other garden cleaning tools. The event will consist of Opening Remarks from the City and the Juneteenth Committee, a brief History of the Cemetery and recognition of our volunteers.
