Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Ramiro Garza, Jr. first moved to Edinburg over twenty years ago. He has worked alongside city officials, serving as the Executive Director of the EDC and as well as Edinburg City Manager for nearly 16 years, leveraging the city’s strengths and growing the local economy.  

Mayor Garza ran on a platform of transparency/accountability, initiating a 2040 vision plan and investing in infrastructure to improve the quality of life in our community.

Under his leadership as mayor, the city has brought back transparency to City meetings, initiated the Edinburg 2040 vision, and started working on improvements in all parts of the city.

He has received numerous honors for his work and involvement in the community. He was recognized as the 2017 Boys & Girls Club of Edinburg RGV Honorary Chair for the Annual Benefit event; inducted to the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame in 2015 by the City of Edinburg; and was a recipient of Vice President Al Gore’s Hammer Award, National Partnership for Reinventing Government in 1999.

Mayor Garza is a proud graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma and completed his education at the University of Texas at Brownsville, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Master’s in Business Administration.

He is married to Maria Esquivel Garza and is a father to two children, Ramiro Andres and Juliana Audrina. 

Garza was elected Mayor of Edinburg in 2021.

Daniel 'Dan' Diaz

Daniel “Dan” Diaz was born in Harlingen, TX and first moved to Edinburg in 1991 after being honorably discharged from the military. He is a combat veteran, a business owner, a Licensed Paramedic and an Emergency Room RN.

Dan served in the United States Army as a 91A, Combat Medical Specialist.  He was stationed with the 1st Infantry Division and was deployed to the Middle East where he served in combat operations during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  He was awarded several military commendations, including the Combat Medical Badge, which is awarded to medics who deploy into an active combat zone.

He has been a Licensed Paramedic in the State of Texas for over 25 years and has been the business owner of MTS Emergency Medical Services for over 20 years.  He also became a Registered Nurse and has been working at a local Trauma Center for over 6 years.  After 5 years of being a charge nurse, he was appointed as a member of the Peer Review Board for Nurses. He was on the Board of Directors of the Texas Ambulance Association for a number of years and has participated in state initiatives in order to help shape legislation for the EMS industry.

In our local community, Dan has also volunteered as a coach for over a decade with the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department coaching baseball, basketball and soccer.  He served on the City of Edinburg Medical Advisory Board, the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Board, and the Edinburg Economic Development Council where he was elected Secretary.  He’s a proud parent volunteer and scout dad with the Edinburg Cub Scouts Pack 500.  Recently, he was asked to serve with the End of Watch Relief Organization Board of Directors, a Non-profit organization which provides monetary assistance to the families of frontline workers who lost their life on duty.

Dan built a home in Edinburg in 2004 and married Brenda Renteria Diaz who is also a Health Care Professional and a local Speech Pathologist.  They have a 10-year-old baptized at the Holy Family Catholic Church.  Diaz was elected to the Edinburg City Council Place 1 in 2021.

Jason De Leon

Jason De Leon was raised in Mission and graduated from Mission Veterans High School in 2006. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri, and an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston. Upon graduation, he worked as a Funeral Director at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan and Edinburg. He is a graduate of Leadership Edinburg Class 23 and was an Ambassador with the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of Edinburg and is a Loan Originator with Willow Bend Mortgage. De Leon was elected to the Edinburg City Council Place 2 in 2021.

Juan Tomas Garcia, “Johnny,” was born in Edinburg where he graduated from Edinburg High School and attended the Vanguard Institute of Technology hence, receiving a Data Entry Specialist certificate. He also attended The Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Services in Houston, Texas where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science. He received a second Associate’s Degree in Theology with the International Apostolic Bible College.

In the past, Garcia has served as the president of Edinburg Crime Stoppers and South Texas Funeral Director Association where he was awarded Funeral Director of the year in 2010 for the South Texas Region. He has also served as a Board Member for the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, South Texas Funeral Director Association and Texas Funeral Director Association. He was also Ambassador for Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member for the RGV Patriot Guard Riders and Rio Grande Valley Law Dogs Motorcycle Club (Law.)

Besides coaching the Edinburg Pony Girls Softball/ Travel team and the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Basketball team, he also sponsored these groups and went onto sponsoring Boys and Girls Club. He has volunteered time for Career Day with local schools including Edinburg, Edcouch-Elsa, Pharr, McAllen, Progresso, Valley View and Hidalgo. Other volunteered time went to Health Awareness Fairs with Housing Authority, and the Shattered Dreams Presentation for D.W.I awareness in Texas where he served as the co-organizer. Currently, he is a Notary Public for the State of Texas, an ordained Minister and active with the Texas Disaster Team (Responder.)

He continues to work hard alongside his family which includes his wife, whom he’s been married for 25 years, his two children Abraham D’Angelo Garcia and Lyssa Marie Garcia, and his granddaughter, Madison Garcia. Garcia was elected to the Edinburg City Council Place 3 in 2019.
