Book Club
Are you a book lover who finds pleasure in reading and discussing books and would like to meet with like minded people? Well, look no further! The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library would like to extend an invitation to you and anyone interested in joining the Library’s Book Club. Join us the last Thursday of each month from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Edinburg Library.

Everyone knows that reading expands your horizons, but joining a book club can add greater benefits. For instance, by joining the book club you will be encouraged to read more, explore outside genres you normally don't read, or simply to make new friends. Book clubs are also a great way to learn about other cultures not only by reading the books themselves but also through the members’ different backgrounds and points of view on the subject and discussion. Finally, a book club is a great way to learn communication skills by listening to the opinions of others.

The Library Book Club covers a wide range of genres which includes both fiction and non-fiction books. In the past the club has chosen mostly nonfiction works such as biographies, memoirs, and historical accounts, but this is not to say that fiction books are left unread. Such popular fiction titles as the Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson are among the group’s favorite titles.

The Book Club is sponsored by the Friends of the Library in an effort to encourage reading, promote openness to cultural diversity, and provide stimulating discussions of the many book selections. For more information about the Book Club call 383-6246 and ask for Virginia Bishop, or visit us at 1906 S. Closner Blvd in Edinburg.
