Edinburg Cares Food Drive 2020: 500 Vouchers for Families

The Edinburg Cares Food Drive is now on the works brought to the community by The City of Edinburg. This important event was funded and is organized annually by the department of Parks and Recreation 10 years ago. An event which has slowly grown over the years by giving back to the community from turkeys and canned foods through a variety of partnerships both inside and out the City of Edinburg.

Last year alone, the City gave a total of 1000 turkeys to the community, and this year, they only anticipate an even more successful year. Even though this year society is currently under a pandemic, the Parks and Recreation department has worked around it to continue to provide for those families in need. This year they will ensure a successful and safe event by following CDC guidelines.

In partnership with H-E-B, The City of Edinburg Parks and Recreation department will be giving 500 vouchers and 500 gift cards for the families in the community. Each voucher will be worth $25 which can be exchanged at our local H-E-B (preferably (although other H-E-B supermarkets  will be accepting vouchers as well.)). And $10 gift cards to be used solely for food items. Each voucher will be able to be exchanged for turkey, ham or other fresh produce.

The ECISD parental involvement department will be making visits and doing calls in order to ensure these vouchers go to families who greatly need them. We can’t wait to start sharing these vouchers with our community, let the festivities begin!
