EDINBURG, TX – In honor of National Day of Giving, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV received a generous donation for its Workforce Readiness Program. Earlier today, Charter Communications, (the parent company for Spectrum) announced it would donate $10,000 and 40 new Chromebooks and tablets to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV.
“We know how much of a digital divide has existed in our South Texas area and with the donation Spectrum is providing the Boys & Girls Clubs, it is another step to closing the digital divide for our children and affect the lives of their families,” said State Representative Terry Canales, who was present for today’s National Day of Giving announcement. Representatives from Charter Communications/Spectrum, the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV, Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, and Hidalgo County Precinct 4 also joined the Club in celebration of the Giving Tuesday donation.
The $10,000 donation and new computers will support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg’s Workforce Readiness Program for youth and teens in our surrounding communities. The program allows local youth and teenagers the opportunity to learn essential and technical skills as well as practice these newly acquired skills through real-life work experiences. “We are so excited to have these new tablets that we can use in our Workforce Readiness Program. The program offers teens experiences such as service – learning, job shadowing, financial literacy and work certifications that prepares them for first job experiences in our local area,” said Adriana Rendon, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg.
