The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library proudly announces its annual free Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales” which focuses on the stories of animals big and small, wild and domesticated, even dragons and dinosaurs. The program runs from June 14 through July 23, 2021 with registration beginning on Monday, May 10th, 2021.

Summer Reading Program participants will be treated to several activities including arts and crafts, STEM, culinary recipes, and story times. To ensure the safety of its patrons and staff, the library will offer in-person programming with scheduled sessions and limited space for those that wish to attend, and live online sessions for families that are not able to attend or that prefer to follow along from the safety of their home. Patrons will be given the option of attending the library’s in-person activities held throughout the day or attending the program online.

Those attending the online program will be given activity packets which will contain materials and instructions for each activity and will be provided with a Zoom link to join us live from home. As the children complete their reading goals, they will receive special prizes and at the end of the program, children who meet all their reading minute goals will be rewarded with a special festival.

The Summer Reading Program encourages children and teens to read for fun during their vacation to maintain their reading skills. It helps to attract new patrons to the library and encourages regular use of the services we provide.

For more information on the Summer Reading Program or any ongoing children’s activities, please call the Children’s Department at 956-383-6246, or visit the library located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd in Edinburg, Texas.
