City Presents New Skate Park for the Community

The City of Edinburg celebrated a new project for the community on Friday, August 6, 2021, a highly requested project by Edinburg residents. This is the construction of a modern skate park, an amenity which will promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The City of Edinburg officially announced the start of this project, which is expected to be completed on Halloween 2021, by Spohn Ranch Skateparks, a construction company from Los Angeles, California.

This new project will be an addition to the current City skate park which also has upgrades to come. This modern design will allow for skaters of different ages, skill levels, and even those who use different types of wheels to be able to participate at the same time. This is due to the special design of having different sections throughout the skate park, allowing different skaters to participate.

The 12,000-square-foot skate park will be located by Edinburg’s Activity Center, an ideal location which will continue to have more changes in the future. After the City’s Manager, Ron Garza, researched throughout the RGV and surrounding cities, he was able to collect useful feedback which helped in the design of the project. This will be one of the biggest skate parks in the Rio Grande Valley, confirmed by Vince Onel, Spohn Ranch, VP of Skatepark Development, who joined the event via Zoom.

Onel also explained the overall design of the project which will allow skaters to conveniently come and learn, practice or advance their skills regardless of terrain styles.
