EDINBURG, TX – The City of Edinburg is proud to announce its recognition by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) for its exceptional contributions as a community engagement partner. This prestigious recognition was presented to city leaders at the UTRGV Community Engagement and Student Success Building, on Thursday, May 18, at 10 a.m.

The Community Partner Appreciation Celebration highlighted 12 community partners for their commitment to the university. Each academic college, as well as the Athletic Department, was asked to select one community partner that they felt had contributed a great deal to UTRGV students and staff. The City of Edinburg was selected by the UTRGV Athletic Department as this year’s community partner recipient.

“This recognition reflects the City of Edinburg's strong commitment to education, innovation, and community growth,” Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. said. “Through various initiatives and partnerships, Edinburg has actively contributed to UTRGV's mission of providing transformative educational opportunities and addressing the unique needs of the region. It’s a wonderful partnership.”

Earlier this month, the City of Edinburg was also honored as the inaugural recipient of the UTRGV College of Fine Arts Dean's Partner Award. Dean Jeffrey Ward of UTRGV's College of Fine Arts granted the award to Edinburg in recognition of the city's outstanding commitment to fostering partnerships and supporting the college's initiatives. The City of Edinburg has actively collaborated with the College of Fine Arts, working together to facilitate internships, showcase talented performers, promote art events, and bolster the artistic workforce in the region.

"It's an honor to be recognized for the work happening in Edinburg between the College of Fine Arts and the city," Letty Leija, Director of Library and Cultural Arts, said.  "We know that the arts build and sustain vibrant, creative, and thriving communities, and we are excited about the future of the arts in Edinburg."

The City of Edinburg extends its gratitude to UTRGV for these esteemed recognitions and looks forward to continuing its partnership in the pursuit of educational excellence and community development.
