Edinburg, TX— The City of Edinburg proudly congratulates UTRGV on the approval of a new residence hall and dining facility by the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

This significant $135.5-million investment in Edinburg will be located at the intersection of North Sugar Road and West Van Week Street, with construction starting in July and expected completion in early 2027. T

he new complex will feature a five-story residence hall with 550 beds and a dining hall that can seat 500.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Chancellor and Board of Regents for this grand investment in our community,” Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. said. “This project will greatly benefit UTRGV students and the Edinburg community at large.”

This marks the first new residence hall on the Edinburg Campus in 20 years. It will offer a variety of living arrangements, including double, single, and premium single-bed units organized in community pods with shared collaboration spaces. The hall will also include common areas designed for study and community-building activities.

The new dining hall will be larger than the existing facility, which will be repurposed into a full-time catering kitchen to enhance service for university events. It will also feature a retail shop and is planned to include a Mongolian grill station.
