Edinburg Library to Host Summer Reading Kickoff

Edinburg, Texas – The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is excited to announce the kickoff for the 2024 Children's Summer Reading Program (SRP). This year’s SRP theme is “Your Adventure Begins at the Library,” and it will feature exciting activities and fun library adventures!

To start the adventure, the SRP kickoff will feature a live interactive dinosaur show for children of all ages on Friday, June 7 at 6 p.m. at Sekula Memorial Library. This event is for all registered participants, and registration will also be available at that time for those who have not yet signed up their children.

SRP welcomes children from infants to age 11, as well as tweens, teens, and even adults. This year, the Edinburg Library will host the SRP from June 10 to July 12. The program is held annually to encourage early literacy and help school-age children avoid the summer slump by continuing to read throughout the summer, thereby maintaining the reading skills they build during the school year. Each age level has specific goals to meet, and children who achieve their reading goals will be invited to a special event celebrating their accomplishments at the program's conclusion.

Additionally, the SRP includes various programs from Monday to Thursday at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and on Fridays at 10 a.m. These sessions will cover Art, STEM, and Culinary Arts, with Tuesdays dedicated to toddlers and guest speakers and presentations every Friday. Tweens and Teens will meet Monday to Thursday at 6 p.m. The Summer Reading Program is free to register for and participate in, with all materials provided.
