Edinburg to Host Annual 9/11 Remembrance 5K on Sept. 5 and Ceremonial Walk on Sept. 11
The event, held in honor of the heroes who gave their lives on that tragic day in U.S. history, will begin and end at Fire Station 1. The race will start at 7:30 a.m.
Registration for the 5K is now open through September 4 at www.ActiveEdinburg.com, with a fee of $20 per person. Shirts will be provided to the first 300 runners.
Packet pickup will be held on Thursday, September 3, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday, September 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department (315 Mark S. Pena Drive), and on race day at Fire Station 1 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.
This year, the free Honorary Walk will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Fire Station 1. A special remembrance ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m., featuring the ringing of the bells, the wailing of sirens, and TAPS in tribute to the victims. Following the ceremony, the walk will kick off at 9:11 a.m., covering a 911-meter route around City Hall and back to Fire Station 1.
