Edinburg, TX — In remembrance of the sacrifices made by first responders in New York City on September 11, 2001, the City of Edinburg is set to host the 6th Annual 9/11 Patriot Day of Remembrance 5K Memorial Run on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

The event, held in honor of the heroes who gave their lives on that tragic day in U.S. history, will begin and end at Fire Station 1. The race will start at 7:30 a.m.

Registration for the 5K is now open through September 4 at www.ActiveEdinburg.com, with a fee of $20 per person. Shirts will be provided to the first 300 runners.

Packet pickup will be held on Thursday, September 3, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday, September 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department (315 Mark S. Pena Drive), and on race day at Fire Station 1 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.

This year, the free Honorary Walk will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Fire Station 1. A special remembrance ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m., featuring the ringing of the bells, the wailing of sirens, and TAPS in tribute to the victims. Following the ceremony, the walk will kick off at 9:11 a.m., covering a 911-meter route around City Hall and back to Fire Station 1.
