City Attorney

The mission and duty of the City Attorney is to provide quality legal services to the City of Edinburg so that it can govern lawfully, with the highest level of integrity, and in service of the community effectively.

The City Attorney provides a wide variety of legal services:
  • Serves as chief legal adviser for the City Council, City Officials, Advisory Boards, Commissions, and staff to protect the interests of the City and taxpayers.
  • Prepares and reviews ordinances, resolutions, and contracts.
  • Advises the City in employment matters and other legal issues.
  • Represents the City in civil litigation matters by defending the City in civil lawsuits and prosecuting civil claims.
  • Prosecutes misdemeanor and infraction offenses occurring within the jurisdictional limits of the City’s Municipal Court.
  • Issues ethics advisory memorandums for City officials and employees.
  • Provides training on various rules, laws, and regulations such as Open Government and City employment policies.
  • Reviews public information requests and responses.
