Edinburg has seen enhancements in its infrastructure supporting the Valley’s growth as well, with projects including:

Freddy Gonzalez Drive Expansion

Freddy Gonzalez Drive endured multiple projects over the past year.  In addition to being expanded to include a turning lane at the intersection with McColl Road, Freddy Gonzalez Drive was repaved.  The project runs down to 10th Street in neighboring McAllen.

Working in conjunction with Hidalgo County and the Hidalgo County MPO, 10th Street in Edinburg has begun the intial stages of expansion that will connect University Drive all the way to Monte Cristo Drive.

New Transit Terminal in Edinburg

The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, in conjunction with the City and the Edinburg EDC, are constructing a Transit Terminal located at 617 W. University Drive.  The 15,000 square foot facility is thanks to a $4.3 million federal grant on a 1.6 acre tract donated by the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation.  

The terminal will serve as home to Valley Metro, the City’s public transit provider.  Additionally, the project will provide office and retail space.

New Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan

The City has partnered with Halff Associates Inc. to develop a City Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.  The plan is designed to expand on the existing network of bike ways, and hike and bike trails.

Throughout the course of the year, residents we able to view the phases of the provided input for the construction of the master plan via open houses and online surveys.

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan has been presented to and approved by the Edinburg City Council.
