Edinburg Designated as a Pet-Friendly City; Receives First Better Cities for Pets' Certification in the Rio Grande Valley
EDINBURG, TX – The City of Edinburg is excited to share that it is now one of five Texas cities, the only city south of Houston, to be certified as a 'Better Cities for Pets‘ by the Mars Petcare ‘Better Cities for Pets’ program. The Better Cities for Pets certification represents Edinburg’s commitment to pet-friendliness. To receive this certification, the City met a variety of pet-friendliness requirements showing how we have, or are making, strides to become more welcoming to pets in our businesses, parks, shelters and homes.
Part of what helped Edinburg receive this certification was our Active Edinburg initiative, which is an ongoing effort to focus on community health and wellness through outdoor activities and events. Our city is focused on continuing to increase the number of recreational amenities not only for our citizens, but also for their furry four-legged friends. In fact, the City of Edinburg is now home to three dog parks!
As you are aware, the City hosts its ‘Food Trucks N Tunes’ event the first and third Friday of each month. These events have been pet-friendly from the start, but this Friday we have something very special planned! To celebrate this certification, the City is hosting a ‘Dog Days of Summer Edition’ of its popular Food Trucks N Tunes event- visitors can visit with pet-friendly businesses and organizations in addition to the live music and food that you already know and love. Palm Valley Animal Shelter will also be on-site offering a $10 microchipping service.
We hope you’ll bring your dog(s) and join us in celebrating this achievement and as we continue making strides toward becoming an even more pet-friendly city!
