Edinburg, TX— At its regular meeting on April 16, 2024, the Edinburg City Council unanimously passed a poignant resolution to retire the call sign Eagle 1 in memory of Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider. Dozens of local firefighters gathered in solidarity to express their support for the resolution, highlighting the profound impact Chief Snider had on the Edinburg community.

Chief Snider, who dedicated over three decades of his life to the fire service, passed away on May 1, 2023, following a brave battle with cancer. His unwavering commitment to public service and exemplary leadership qualities earned him respect and admiration throughout his career.

Chief Snider's journey with the Edinburg Fire Department began in January 1991. His dedication and competence quickly propelled him through the ranks, culminating in his appointment as Fire Chief in 1999. Throughout his tenure, Chief Snider worked tirelessly to enhance the department's response times, elevate training opportunities for firefighters, and bolster public safety measures within the community.

The retirement of call sign Eagle 1 stands as a testament to Chief Snider's lasting impact and the profound legacy he leaves behind. The Edinburg Fire Department, along with the entire city, honors Chief Snider's memory and pledges to continue his noble work of safeguarding the residents of Edinburg.
